Camp In
Last night my son and I and a few hundred fourth and fifth graders spent the night at the Denver museum of Nature and Science. It was a very interesting experience. We arrived at 5:30pm and then had three hour long classes which were themed around the grossology exhibit. We had lung power, marvelous mucus, and it is good to be gross. In the first class we learned about the respiratory system and the teacher dissected sheep lungs for the class. In the second class we learned how wonderful mucus is and that we swallow on the average of a quart of snot a day. We also got to make our own boogers. I have the recipe if anyone is interested. In the last class we got to pretend we were dung beetles and make our own dung balls. We also learned that rabbits eat their own poop in order to get the most nutrients out of it. YUCK!!!! We then had snack and then free time of about an hour in the museum. Lights out was at 11:30 pm. Every group was assigned a sleeping area we were in Africa. I can tell you one thing the floors are hard as hell in the museum. If anyone does this I suggest an air mattress. In the morning the lights come on brightly at 7:00am. We then ate more free time, the IMAX movie the human body, the walk to the zoo for a 45 minute time frame and back to get on the bus to come home. It was alright until the Gestapo like teacher with us decided that the free time had to be spent together as a group and we all were going to the exhibits she was interested in. The kids were not happy and neither were the parents. Even the schools principal who came today said its free time do what you want just be back in time for the bus to leave. We had a good time overall. If there is a next time I will take an air mattress and drive myself so I can do what I want with the free time. Love to all.
